10 Leo Negative Traits

Updated October 23, 2024

Unfortunately, Leo’s negative traits are some of the ones they are best known for. Many people know the vain, arrogant side of Leo.

Leos have many redeeming qualities, but looking past their negative traits is sometimes challenging. Their strong personalities aren’t always bright and sunny.

Some of Leo’s negative traits are what happens when their positive ones go too far. Their confidence and self-reliance become vanity, selfishness, and egocentric behavior. Leo’s determination can make them stubborn and domineering. Their spontaneity makes them reckless.

Leo’s desire for attention can become a negative trait. They don’t always look for attention in positive ways. They can also become possessive in relationships because of their constant need for attention.

Some traits might be endearing initially but become negative when Leo takes them too far. Their childish and dramatic behavior isn’t always bad, but it can be.

1. Entitled

Leo’s attitude comes across as self-centered and entitled. Some genuinely believe the world revolves around them.

Leo sometimes expects other people to listen to, respect, or focus on them. They might feel their opinions matter more than others and become frustrated when people don’t treat them as such.

Leo might feel as if they are entitled to money or success. They are ambitious but don’t want to do the necessary work to get what they want. Some of them think it should just be given to them.

Your Leo friend or partner might feel entitled to your time. They may become angry when you don’t give them exactly what they want and won’t understand why you are upset with them for behaving this way.

2. Vain

Leo’s personality can be incredibly vain and focused on image. Some Leos are more vain than others. This isn’t always an issue, but when it is, it’s noticeable.

Confidence is a common Leo trait, which is not a bad thing! Leo sometimes has a false sense of confidence in everything they do. They aren’t just confident about things they’re skilled in.

Some Leos are also too focused on their looks. They go beyond simply practicing good hygiene and taking care of themselves. They might only hang around attractive people because they think doing otherwise would make them look bad.

Their vanity gets Leo in trouble. They push people away when they are too focused on looks. Their false sense of confidence can easily crumble, too. Their vanity makes it difficult for them to be wrong.

3. Selfish

Are Leos selfish? They can be. Leos do not always think about the needs of others. They focus entirely on what they want, sometimes at the cost of what the people around them need.

Some of Leo’s positive and negative traits are complete opposites. At their worst, Leos can be incredibly selfish. They can also be generous when they’re at their best, though.

A Leo might be completely selfish, even when with those they love. They might also behave selfishly in general but be capable of generous and selfless behavior toward those they care about most.

Leo can learn to control their natural selfishness, but it takes time. They have to try and bring out their generous side. If they don’t, they will push people away. Leo needs to learn to find balance so that they can focus on themselves and others.

4. Egocentric

It’s common for Leo to be egocentric. This is far worse than just being selfish or vain. Some Leos don’t care for the people around them because they are too focused on themselves.

The dark side of Leo can be seen when their egocentrism gets out of control. Someone who genuinely only thinks of themselves and expects others to also think of them will have difficulty forming genuine bonds with others.

Being egocentric goes beyond just being selfish. Leo is sometimes so self-centered that they completely ignore the people around them. Leo might fail to notice that someone is injured or in danger because they focus only on themselves.

Leo needs to learn to focus on other people and cultures outside their own. Leo might be adventurous, but they don’t always look at things from different points of view. That will stop them from truly experiencing the world.

5. Childish

Being childish is one of Leo’s negative characteristics that might not always be negative. Many people enjoy Leo’s childlike, carefree nature. Letting loose and not worrying about responsibilities or seeming mature can sometimes be fun.

However, Leo doesn’t always know when it’s appropriate to be a little childish and when they need to act more responsibly and maturely. They focus too much on their fun and enjoyment and not enough on behaving appropriately.

A childish Leo might joke around in situations where that’s not appropriate. They may think everyone behaving calmly or seriously is wrong, too.

Some Leos genuinely won’t understand why people find their behavior childish and inappropriate. They will accuse everyone around them of taking things too seriously instead of adjusting their behavior.

6. Reckless

What are Leo’s weaknesses? Their recklessness is one weakness that can get them in trouble. Leo’s spontaneity can sometimes be exciting. However, it can cause them to get into dangerous situations.

Leo doesn’t always think before they do something. Sometimes, this works out. It makes them seem decisive and exciting. Other times, they get themselves in trouble and do things they regret.

Leo is reckless in many areas of their life. They might be reckless about relationships, so they constantly fall in and out of love. They might commit before they’re truly ready to or end a relationship that was genuinely good for them.

Leo also might be reckless in their quest for adventure. They won’t plan things out or research before going somewhere or trying something new. Their recklessness can get them in trouble if they aren’t careful.

7. Dramatic

Leo is known for being theatrical. They see life as one big performance, and this can be entertaining! Their flair for drama can make them seem exciting and charming at times.

Their dramatic personality has a downside, though. Leo is sometimes overly dramatic, which rubs people the wrong way. They are dramatic when it would be better to remain calm as well.

Leo overreacts to things because of how dramatic they are. They might lash out in anger or cry over the most minor things. They will also make things about themselves when they should focus on others.

A Leo who is overly dramatic might always see themselves as the victim. They might have excessively emotional reactions to situations where others would remain calm. Their drama isn’t always funny or endearing. It pushes people away.

8. Possessive

Being possessive is one of Leo’s toxic traits. This typically occurs in romantic relationships, but Leos can be possessive over close friends and family.

Leo’s possessiveness typically comes from a place of insecurity. Leo isn’t always as confident as they seem, and they might worry about losing the people closest to them.

However, Leo doesn’t always react to this insecurity constructively. Instead of talking things through, they will become possessive and controlling over the people they’re worried about losing.

If your Leo partner is possessive, they might check in with you constantly and get upset when you don’t reply immediately. They might demand to go with you when you go out.

Leo’s possessive nature will push away the people they are trying to keep close. They usually need to get this under control, or the people they love will leave, just as they feared.

9. Attention-seeking

Their attention-seeking behavior can sometimes be one of Leo’s red flags. It’s normal to want attention. Everyone does sometimes! The way Leo goes about getting attention is not always good, though.

A Leo who wants attention won’t always care about what type of attention they get. They might lash out because negative attention is better than no attention. They might do things they end up regretting just because they want someone to focus on them.

An attention-seeking Leo might cheat or do something else to betray their partner if that partner isn’t giving them the attention they want. Instead of accepting that they can’t always be in the spotlight, they will look for attention elsewhere.

10. Domineering

Are Leos dangerous? For the most part, they aren’t. Leos can become aggressive, controlling, and domineering, though. They go a little too far, especially during arguments, which can sometimes make them seem dangerous.

A domineering Leo is someone you should look out for. Many Leos have dominant personalities and are natural leaders. These traits can be positive! If Leo aggressively demands that everyone listen to them, that is an issue.

Leos who are domineering are used to always getting their way. They will refuse to listen to others. They won’t accept that sometimes, their way isn’t the best way to do things or that their needs aren’t more important than others.

If you’re in a relationship with a domineering Leo, this will cause issues. They might constantly make demands and order you around. If they ever want a healthy relationship, they need to learn to calm down and listen to others.
